NHS begins EDI hiring spree despite Streeting crackdown

NHS trusts are continuing to hire for equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) roles, despite government attempts to scale back such positions. Critics, including former Health Secretary Stephen Barclay, argue that funds should be redirected to frontline care rather than “bureaucratic” diversity roles. Current Health Secretary Wes Streeting has stated that the NHS should focus on tackling health inequalities rather than “pointless ideological changes.” However, NHS leaders defend EDI roles, emphasizing their importance in improving workplace culture and patient care.
