Course outline
We live in a multicultural society that brings a wealth of tradition, diversity, ideologies, and faiths to mention a few. We know this should be celebrated however doing so has presented some challenges, such as worries of cultural appropriation instead of appreciation. Support is still needed to learn about other cultures, communicate effectively, and identify what behaviours can be discriminatory. This webinar will focus on understanding the benefits of cultural competence, developing the skills needed and outlining how to continue doing the work on the journey.
Training topics will include:
- What are cultural sensitivities
- Acknowledging cultural blindness
- Developing the skill of cultural competence
- Showing cultural appreciation not appropriation
- The continuous journey of understanding culture
Learning outcomes:
- Develop a clear understanding what cultural competence is
- Identify steps to developing the skills needed to keep learning
- Knowledge of how to appreciate another culture appropriately
