Course outline
Challenging Unconscious Bias: From Awareness to Action
While many are now familiar with the concept of unconscious bias, understanding how to effectively challenge and mitigate bias—both personally and within wider communities—requires deeper reflection and practical action.
This half-day seminar goes beyond awareness, offering strategies to address bias in decision-making and fostering a cultural shift that promotes inclusivity and equity. Delegates will leave with the tools to initiate meaningful change within their teams and organisations.
Training topics will include:
Session 1: Mitigating Personal Bias
- Understanding the dangers and consequences of bias
- How unconscious bias impacts decision-making
- Strategies to recognise and actively mitigate personal bias
- The benefits of increased self-awareness in professional practice
Session 2: Creating a Culture Shift
- Identifying where bias appears in systems, language, and behaviours
- Working collaboratively to interrupt and challenge bias in your setting
- Practical steps to shift mindsets and change the narrative within your community
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the seminar, participants will:
- Be able to recognise and mitigate their own unconscious bias
- Develop the skills and confidence to identify bias within their organisational setting
- Learn how to support cultural change by influencing thinking and behaviours within their teams and communities
